In one of the more shameful chapters of American history, buses were lined up from 331 to 383 Seventh Street in February of 1942, as Japanese American Issei and Nissei were brought together to be transported to the "Santa Anita Assembly Center" --which were in reality the stables of the Santa Anita racetrack-- prior to being sent to Manzanar and other relocation camps.

Remarkably, the facades of these store fronts remain much as they were over 70 years ago, having survived urban renewal and being adapted to new use. Yet line up vintage buses curbside, and the scene from 1942 can easily be re-imagined.
